Concepts of Educational Inquiry Professor Steven Weiland This course was the introduction to the MSU Masters of Arts in Education program. This course pretty much laid the foundation for what to expect in the program. We spent the semester studying and identifying some of the key issues within education, while also analyzing the critical theories of some of the fields leading philosophers. It's purpose was to drive the students to place their own inquiries into the educational process and create their own ideas on how certain areas may be improved or changed. |

Legal and Administrative Issues for Administrators and Coaches Professor Rick Atkinson This course was devised around providing the class with the ideas and concepts of what a coach and administrator must know for all legal and liability aspects surrounding sports. The course was extremely detailed in outline the legal areas of sports, which all levels must abide by. The course was laid out in a way that each module would build off one another, beginning with defining what a risk and liability was, and continue for the class to work on what risks and liabilities a sports program may face. |

Leadership and Organizational Development Professor Deborah McFarlane This course was about the development of teachers as leaders within their classroom and school. This course allowed the students the opportunity to analyze texts and articles about educational leaders and ideas of leadership that can be helpful within the classroom. The students had the chance to take the ideas and concepts they learned and put them into use by developing their ideas of leadership over the time of the course and create an even greater understanding of what it means to be a leader within an organization or school. |

Engaging Diverse Students and Families Professor Muhammed Khalifa This course dealt with how the diversity among students, families and geographic location effected the education of students. It delved deep into the major issues of the education of minority students and how their cultural backgrounds play a role in their styles of learning. We focused a lot on how each culture is affected by the education process and how each culture needs to be focused on specifically by the teacher, to help improve the education within all the students. |

Physical Bases of Coaching Athletes Professor Scott Riewald In this course we looked at the world of sports from a more scientific perspective. The course was based around the anatomical aspects of the human body and how each part of the body functions in a specific way for each sport. It continued to delve deeper into the biological aspects of sports and its effects on the body. The course was based on making sure each student was able to identify and explain how each aspect of the course would affect the sport they are involved with, and how Sports Science can improve the training and abilities of their players. |

Adult Learning Professor Riyad Shahjahan This course dealt with the ideas and concepts of adult education. It was meant for the class to distinguish the differences in the education of young students compared to adult learners. It was an in depth analysis of how the education of adult learners can be both similar and different from one another. Using selected texts and articles the class was able to identify and create skills that would be useful for the education of adult learners. |

Psychosocial Bases of Coaching Professor Andrew Driska Within this course, the students were given the opportunity to not only learn about the psychological aspects of being a coach, but the chance to use what they were learning and put them into practice. It allowed for each student to self-reflect on the material learned and put a lot of work into a first person perspective, so that each can see how they can develop their coaching styles in a more positive manner. |

Promoting Positive Youth Development in Sports Professor Daniel Gould This course centered on the development of sports within youth athletes. It covered all aspects of development for a player from when they should first be involved, until they have reached their peak of physical performance. The course was instructed on how to best involve young athletes in sports to get them involved in a physical and active lifestyle. It also touched on how the coaches should lead the sports, so that they can properly coach and keep the children interested in the sport for further pursuit in the sport. |

Capstone Portfolio Course Professor Matthew Koehler This course is the capstone course for the Masters of Arts in Education program at MSU. his course has been designed to allow the students to compile all their work from their time at MSU and put it all together on a created website, which serves as the students portfolio. This course allows the student to reflect upon their time at MSU and what they have learned through their journey in the Masters Education program. |

Issues in Urban Education: Racial Achievement Gap ProfessorChristopher Dunbar Within this course the students are being faced with having to look in depth at the education of minority students. This course is designed to allow the students to study and guide their way through the concepts of the racial achievement gap and develop ideas of how to eliminate it. The students will be faced with texts and articles discussing the racial achievement gap and what can be done to prevent it from entering the classrooms. |
