Coaching Philosophy
Fortunately I have had the pleasure of being able to work within three college football programs early in my career as a coach. With my time at Lake Forest College, MacMurray College and Limestone College I have been able to work with and learn from some great coaches. They have not only helped to shape me into a positive coach, but have given a lot of insight on what type of coach I want to become. I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given thus far in my journey as a coach and I look forward to what my future in coaching has in store for me.
When it comes to the work that I do with my players, I find it extremely important that my job is not only restricted to the boundaries of a football field. I find it my job to make each player I work with better on and off the field. As a coach I have the opportunity to work with young adults and help to guide them on their journey to becoming men. Since I work with college level athletes, the football team and coaching staff becomes a surrogate type of family. For most of the players it is their first time away from home and I try to instill in them that concept that they can look to their teammates or coaches for help. I find it imperative to build relationships with each one of my players so that during their time in college they have someone they can trust and respect to guide them through all situations on and off the field.
I find coaching college football to be an extremely noble profession because there are so few professions where one can feel the joy of being able to develop someone into a positive influence on and off the field. It's a profession based on teaching young men how to play a game, which is how most people see it. What most people don't understand is that it is so much more than that. It is the opportunity to educate young men on how the values of honesty, integrity and respect. It is a job most people are not cut out for, its a job that demands a lot of time and effort and I am grateful for the opportunity I have each and every day.
